Dave Eggers: Ungrateful Mammals
- Hardcover: 144 pages
- Publisher: Harry N. Abrams; Har/Unbnd edition (Oct. 17 2017)
Dav Eggers is known to many as the best selling author of books such as The Circle and What is the What. But he also happens to be a talented visual artist and pretty fantastic drawer. The book Ungrateful Mammals is an interesting, if odd, collection of drawings of animals combined with text. The words surrounding the animals at times have no clear connection, but that adds to the charm of the book. It’s a dry sense of humour with a light touch. The drawings themselves- looking like coloured-pencil on paper- are very expressive, often loose sketches that contain a character imbued by the artist’s hand. A little surprise bonus in the form of an envelope stuffed with cards each with a different phrase is attached to the inside of the back cover.
